May 2, 2024 Process Technology offers electric heaters which are UL823 certified, suitable for heating flammable liquids and solvents a well as for use in Class I, Div 2 hazardous environments.
Standard electric immersion heaters are not recommended for heating flammable liquids due to their construction. The resistance wire operates at a temperature that is much hotter than the autoignition temperature of most flammable liquids and can appear on the heater surface during a low liquid level event.
The safer method for heating flammable liquids is indirect heat in which a heat transfer material transfers the heat from the wire to the liquid while keeping them separated. Limiting the temperature of the transfer material can keep the liquid below the flash point or ignition temperature of the flammable liquid, thus eliminating the hazard.
The following electric heaters are constructed using the principle of indirect heat, this making them suitable for heating flammable liquid.
- Frontier inline heaters; 316SS wetted surface, up to 36kW heat output.
- SHB-series inline heaters, 316SS wetted surfaces, up to 2kW heat output.
- SHC-series inline heaters, PFA wetted surfaces, up to 2kW heat output.
- SH-series inline heaters, 316SS wetted surfaces, up to 9kW heat output.
